Round trip international air ticket
An agreement will be signed with your university, a copy of which you will receive before departure. This will include the clause that your round-trip airfare will be reimbursed in exchange for your commitment to teach English for one year. You will receive the whole amount of money at the end of your year work. The University will provide round trip air ticket (international economy class air ticket for the nearest distance between China and your country and domestic economy class air ticket for the nearest distance between the entry port to Yichang City).
Contract for one year
China Three Gorges University requires that you sign the employment contract for at least one year. However, if you wish to extend your stay further, this can be arranged.
Accommodation
During your entire contractual period in Yichang you shall be provided, free of charge, a full furnished flat which includes one-two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom, toilet, office. Your flat is furnished with the following: - Color TV,
- Air-conditioner(s),
- Heating,
- Computer with Internet connection,
- Telephone,
- Washing Machine,
- Refrigerator.
Your flat is located on campus and classes are within walking distance. If you are required to teach on one of our other campuses, then travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Holyday allowance in China
You will be reimbursed 2200RMB during your school holidays, for covering the partial expenses of your holiday within China. Or you can choose to be paid one month salary for the holiday pay.
Health / medical insurance
We will provide you with medical insurance. We recommend that you also take out travel insurance with your travel agency. Or you can choose to be paid 347 Yuan RMB for the insurance reimburse.
Free Chinese lessons
If you wish to learn Chinese the University would be very happy to organize and provide you with free Chinese lessons, in small classes.
When should I apply for the job and how long amI required to commit for?
As stated, we require you for at least one year. If you wish to commit for a longer period you are more than welcome to do so.
Which documents am I required to provide once I have been invited to teach at CTGU?
You should have already provided your resume. Once a decision has been made as to whether you will be suitable for this position we will require you to provide: - A photocopy of your passport (first page with your photo, and personal information)
- A Health Certificate- We will provide you with the information that we require. You will then have your doctor in your country perform this health check to confirm that you are in good health and don't carry any infectious diseases (such as: tuberculosis, hepatitis, malaria, sexually related diseases, etc.)
- A photo copy of your academic certificate.
These documents we will require you to send by fax, and also to bring with you to China. You will need to bring the original results from your medical check-up.
How do I get my working visa?
Once we have made the decision to ask you to work here, and you have sent us the above information, we will then send you a formal letter of invitation. This letter you will need to take to your nearest Chinese Embassy, or consulate. At the same time you will need to fill in a visa application form (available at the embassy), your valid passport, and 4 passport size photos. The Visa application fee is about AUD$30, payable on approval.
What time should I arrive in China?
We recommend that you arrive around 7 days before you are required to commence teaching. This will allow you to get to Yichang, and settle into your new home.
Who will be meeting me off my plane?
You will need to inform us of your flight number and date/time of your arrival, also, whether you will be arriving in Beijing, or Shanghai. You will be met by an official from our university who will accompany you to Yichang. You will get to stay over night in Shanghai, or Beijing, and will be shown some of the historical sites in either of these two cities.
What am I required to teach?
You are mainly required to teach listening, speaking, some written English, literature or linguistics. This is done by correcting pronunciation, and grammar mistakes. Classes are generally two, fifty minute periods per class. You will work 16 hours per week. If you can teach more hours, we also offer you some extra money.
What teaching materials will I use?
Each class has a set text book which will be helpful for providing you with an outline for your class. You shall have full access to all the teaching resources at our University. If you have any materials that you think may be of assistance, please bring them. Also if you have any useful material to teach students about your country, please also share with the students here.
How long do the school holydays last?
Because your school holiday will be during the summer, you will have about 30 days in which to travel and relax. You will have to organize your own travel during this time, but this will give you the opportunity to see much of China's beautiful sights.
In which currency will I be payed?
You will be paid in the Chinese currency RMB. However, we can look into reimbursing your airfare in US dollars.
What are the main terms and conditions of employment?
The key terms and conditions of the contract are as above. You will receive a copy of the contract before you leave for China so that you can agree to the terms.
